Venice, the sinking city

Venice, the sinking city

Venice, ”Queen of the Seas” has only 50 years left to live. The city was built on a lagoon, a strategic location in past centuries, and its inhabitants intended to reap the benefits of its isolation. So the hand of Man went to work on Venice’s natural environment. Since then, the crucial task has been to preserve a delicate balance. Favour the sea and water will spread through the city. Favour the deposit of sediments and the city will become landlocked. Venice must act before it loses its glorious originality.
