A century of writers – Jean Giraudoux

A century of writers – Jean Giraudoux

Giraudoux was born in 1882. He spent the first ten years of his life amongst gushing streams and forests. He soon opted for a consular career. After the first world war, he pursued both his career as a diplomat and his career as a writer. With Giraudoux, poetic and allegorical plays rule supreme over light comedy, wordly or realistic dramatic works. At the eve of the second world war, Giraudoux, who was ambassador plenipotentiary at the time, was appointed general commissioner of information. Giraudoux remains one of the most commended playwrights both in France and abroad. A contemporary author who already ranks among the classics.
